Its October ! Wow this year has definitely flown by. Now it is time for the holidays! Personally my favorite time of the year. From the smells of crisp autumn air and pumpkin pie to the sweaters, scarves and boots we wear. This is the perfect time to create those crafts you have been wanting to all year! Well lets get started!
PALLETS
But first things first you must find a source to get your pallets. I personally drove around and looked at ATV dealerships and construction businesses. Most were willing to give them away, the others were just a few dollars. Totally doable.
When picking out your pallet look out for signs of rot and foul smelling wood. There are some stains that just add to the character.
TRANSPORTATION
Get that truck or trailer. (I tried using my Honda, Ya... That didn't quite work but I sure did get a laugh out of myself.) Strap those pallets down and get them home. ITS TIME TO GET CRAFTY!
DISSASEMBLE
Tools you will need
*SAWZALL with a Metal & Wood blade
*BROOM
I tried to pull them apart when I first started working with pallets. In the end it just ruined the wood, splitting it. Its time to get out your Sawzall!
I suggest placing the blade at the seam of where the boards connect. Apply some pressure and it should slice right though. (Make sure you have the right blade. It will save you time and effort in the long run.) This will cut the nails into small pieces, some will stay in boards others will pop out and end up scattered throughout your work area. Lets just say after 2 tires and a nail in the foot I learned my lesson. So sweep up your mess, you will thank me later. LOL.
DOWN SIZING
I used my Miter saw to cut the boards into smaller pieces. Make sure to take all safety precautions. I thought I was to cool to wear safety glasses, I would suggest wearing some, along with wearing gloves so you don't get slivers.
If you want to create some awesome wall or door hanging décor. Go to my next post! You wont regret it!!!
